COVID-19 Expanded eligibility for fourth doses
Starting April 7th, the Province, in consultation with the Chief Medical Officer of Health, is expanding eligibility for fourth doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to individuals aged 60 and over as well as Indigenous Peoples and their household members aged 18 and over. All eligible Ontarians are encouraged to get their fourth dose as soon as possible. Expanding booster eligibility will provide an extra layer of protection against the Omicron and BA.2 variants and, in addition to antivirals, are another tool the Province is using to live with and manage COVID-19.
The Province has been clear about the fourth dose being recommended for 18+ years old. Eligibility is being determined by date of birth, so individuals must be 18 on the date of their vaccination appointment.
On Thursday April 7 at 8:00am., eligible individuals will be able to book their fourth dose appointment through the COVID-19 vaccination portal or by calling the Provincial Vaccine Contact Centre at 1-833-943-3900, directly through public health units that use their own booking systems, through Indigenous-led vaccination clinics, participating pharmacies, and participating primary care settings
Halton Region’s vaccination portal will allow for appointments to be booked three months from the date you received your third dose/booster. Halton Region and the Province recommend a five month interval between your third dose/booster and fourth dose. Pfizer will be offered as a fourth dose to individuals 30 years old and under. Moderna will be offered to individuals over 30 years of age.
We plan to align with the Province’s announcement and are working with IT to update the Booking System. Vaccinations will be available by-appointment until we can further understand the demand.
As always, we continue to update our website with new, and up to date information; please continue to visit halton.ca or the Provincial website.
